Edelweiss > June 01, 2006 - Shell gas station on the SS12, Rovereto, Italy.

Rolling in to fill my BMW R1150GS Adventure, I came across this nice BMW R80 G/S Paris Dakar...just like the one I have at home.
Edelweiss > June 02, 2006 - Maria Dolens on the hill above Rovereto, Italy.

“Maria Dolens”, Rovereto’s monumental bell, tolls every evening at nightfall in the hope that Man, in memory of the Fallen of every war and every nation in the world, may find the path that leads to Peace.

The biggest ringing bell in the world was the brainchild of the Roveretan Fr. Antonio Rossaro, to honour the fallen of all wars and to invoke peace and brotherhood amongst all the peoples of the world. It was cast in Trento on the 30th. Of October 1924 with bronze from cannons donated by the nations involved in the First World War. It was inaugurated on 24th. May 1925 under the name “Maria Dolens”. Since the sound proved unsatisfactory, the bell was recast in Verona on the 13th.of June 1939 and returned to Rovereto on the 26th. of May 1940, resuming its noble mission of peace and universal brotherhood. On the 31st. of August 1960 due to a deep and irreparable crack the bell stopped ringing and on the 1.st of October 1964, thanks to generous assistance of the Lions Club of Italy it was recast at the Capanni Foundery at Castelnuovo ne’ Monti (Reggio Emilia). It was blessed in Rome in St. Peter’s Square by His Holiness pope Paul VI on the 31st. of October 1965 and on the 4th. of November the bell returned in triumph to Rovereto and was placed on Miravalle Hill. On the body of the bell of “Maria Dolens” are engraved the autographed comments of the Supreme Pontiff Pius XII “With peace nothing is lost. Everything is to be lost through war”. John XXIII : “In pace hominum ordinate Concordia et tranquilla libertas”. Popes Pius XI and Pius XII have conceded a special indulgence to anyone who, in front of the monumental bell, recites a prayer for the repose of the Dead. The bell rings out every evening tolling a hundred times in remembrance of the Fallen of all the wars and of all the nations of the world. Rovereto’s Bell of the Peace has become an international meeting point for different religions, cultures and nations seeking ever deeper, constant meditation on the themes of peace, tolerance and human rights.

The bell’s dimension:

-	Height 3,36 m.
-	Diameter 3,21 m.
-	Weight 22,639 tonnes
-	Clapper weight 600 Kilos
-	Weight of supporting beam 10.3 tonnes
Edelweiss > June 08, 2006 - Passo Pian delle Fugazze, Italy.

This road tees into the SS46 immediately behind me where a restaurant is located. The SP219 that I am on heads down to Camposilvano before winding its way back up to the SS46 just east of Raossi. A road definitely worth taking.

Edelweiss > June 13, 2006 - Passo Pian delle Fugazze between Rovereto and Schio, Italy.

The SS 46 tends to be the local area's race course. It also sounds like one on weekends. A few are airlifted to the local hospital quite often; some never make it.

The following three videos cover the length of the SS 46 from Rovereto to Schio...

Edelweiss > June 14, 2006 - Livorno Ferry Port, Livorno, Italy.

Waiting to board the Moby Lines ferry at 2000 for my overnight stay on board. It departed for Bastia, Corscia at 0900 the following morning, arriving there at 1300.

I chose to spend the night on the ferry instead of at a nearby hotel. This prevented having to find the ferry port as well as having to battle traffic and boarding early the next morning.

Breakfast was included in the price and was served the next morning.

Edelweiss > June 17, 2006 - St. Florent, Corsica.

An afternoon in St. Florent where people know how to take their time and enjoy life.

Hotel Maxime, where I stayed, had secure garage parking for motorcycles.
Edelweiss > June 17, 2006 - Gorges de l'Asco, Corsica.

I came across this meter cubed sized boulder upon exiting this hairpin on the Gorges de l'Asco road on the way up on the D 147.

Located at the end of the road is a parking lot and restaurant offering views upon Monte Cinto, Corsica's highest peak at 2706 meters.
