June 13, 2009 - Krankenhaus St. Josef, Braunau am Inn, Austria.
After visiting the KTM factory grounds on June 5th, I took some back roads up to the town of Braunau am Inn with the plan of following the river down along the Austrian-German border back to Salzburg. I never made it.
After filling up at the OMV gas station, I headed towards Ranshofen. 1.2 kilometers after leaving the gas station, I was rammed into the car in front of me, both of us who were stopped for an oncoming bus that had moved over into our lane as he was passing a bicyclist.
The driver of the car that rammed into me was an 18 year old who had just received his driver's licence 17 days earlier. Thank you Alexander W. for your inattention, for totally screwing up my 5 week vacation...just because you were busy yapping on a cell phone, dropping something on the floor of your car and then bending over to pick it up just as we had just stopped. Next time, when you are in your car...drive it!
My 2004 BMW R1150 GS Adventure was a write-off and I had a complete break of my right leg about 10 cm above my ankle. It was interesting to see my foot swivel plus/minus 90 degrees. Both cars were also damaged.
Lying in the hospital, if I can't ride, I might as well read about it.
