Prior to taking this photo, the outer surface of the original main seal was cleaned with lacquer thinner and then duct tape was used to seal off the crankshaft area to keep dirt, soap and water out of the engine while a thorough cleaning of the engine block was performed.
A new O-ring under the oil pump cover was installed. New oil pump cover bolts were installed. Prior to doing so, the oil pump cover bolt holes within the engine block were thoroughly cleaned using lacquer thinner to remove any dirt and oil. The threads of the oil pump cover bolts were coated with "blue" medium strength Loc-Tite.
The flywheel bolt hole threads within the crankshaft were thoroughly cleaned using lacquer thinner to remove any dirt and oil. A new crankshaft bolt was hand threaded into each flywheel bolt hole thread to check for any damaged threads.
